This brand of N04405 and N04400 is a nickel copper alloy commercially known as Monel alloy, Monel 405 is a combination of optimal strength, toughness, corrosion resistance, and economy. It cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, but its strength can be improved through cold processing.
Nickel copper alloys can be divided into two grades: A and B. The grade UNS N04400 (Monel 400) is A grade, which is suitable for cold forging. N04405 (Monel 405) belongs to Class B, and fasteners made of Class B alloy require secondary mechanical processing. A-grade small-sized fasteners will have improved strength due to appropriate cold processing. There is no essential difference in performance between A-level and B-level.
The most widely used nickel copper alloy material in the manufacturing of fasteners, nickel copper alloy has magnetism at room temperature. They have superior performance below zero degrees Celsius, and as the temperature decreases, their strength gradually increases without affecting the ductility, hardness, and impact strength of nickel copper alloys.
The mechanical properties of nuts and threaded fasteners made of nickel alloy are specified in standards ASTM F467 and ASTM F468, respectively.
